National Two South

Westcombe Park 25

A LYDNEY win away from Regentsholme used to be a collector's item, but not any more.

Lydney started at a tremendous pace, but Leeper intercepted a pass and galloped away to score against the run of play. Luke Giles converted.

After winning a scrum against the head, Charlie Vine went over for an unconverted score for the visitors.

The Lydney pack put Park under huge pressure and, after being held up just short of the line on two occasions, Paul Scott finally crashed over. Tony Wicks converted for a 12-7 lead.

The hosts added a second breakaway try through Hockaday on 36 minutes, but more Lydney pressure resulted in a try for Jim McMahon from the final move of the first-half.

Lydney extended their lead to 24-12 within a couple of minutes of the restart.

Paul Scott scored his second try, which was converted by Wicks.

Lydney looked in total control, but doing things the easy way is certainly not their style.

They made two tactical substitutions, bringing on Will Kane and Will Jones for Wicks and McMahon. Soon after, Leigh Green replaced Nick Selway in the front-row.

Giles kicked a 54th minute penalty for the hosts, then Hamish Barton's unconverted try cut the deficit to 24-20.

Lydney composed themselves to extend their lead again – prop Leigh Green bursting through for the vital score.

There was still time for Park to score another unconverted try through Zane Winslade, but Craig Jones's 76th minute penalty opened up a seven point gap at the death to deny Park a bonus point.
