National Two South

Richmond 56

LYDNEY, who have struggled just to train during the cold snap, were blown away by a strong Richmond outfit, chasing promotion to National One.

It was Lydney's biggest defeat of the season and they conceded 10 tries in the process.

Luckily for Lydney, reserve Richmond goal-kicker James Whittingham, who was making his debut, had an off day, converting just three of the tries.

The home side's dominance was built around their pack, who provided a steady stream of quality ball.

They never dropped off the pace to run up their 11th win in a row.

Ironically, Lydney, notoriously slow starters this season, got off to an encouraging start with two long range Brett Turner penalties inside eight minutes.

It clearly annoyed Richmond, who responded with five tries in the next 20 minutes.

Man of the match Guy Thompson scored the first three, demonstrating outstanding pace, support and power.

His opening brace came from line-outs, while the third followed a 40m break by lock Chris Davies.

George (2), Barrett (2), PJ Clarke, Peter Clarke and Trayfoot also crossed for tries as the hosts controlled proceedings throughout.

It was 25-9 at the break, Brett Turner slotting Lydney's third penalty.

The visitors found no way through the home defence after the break, although they did hold out for 10 minutes.
