A 64-year-old Lydney man found guilty of assaulting a woman has been conditionally discharged for a year and ordered to pay costs and surcharges totalling £226.

Grant Baker of Station Road denied assaulting the woman by beating on June 22 last year but he was found guilty by Cheltenham magistrates.

He was found not guilty of a second charge – which he also denied – of destroying the woman’s Samsung mobile phone, valued at £65.
