Lydney v Painswick

THIS top of the table clash with Painswick didn't go Lydney's way after they were put into bat at The Rec.

Jon Kear and Will Jones put on 44 for the first wicket but James Harber broke the partnership by having Kear caught by Talbot for 27.

Jones faced 40 balls for his 10 runs but his patient approach was ended when Harber rattled his stumps. James Legge was bowled by Cave for a fourth ball duck, then Cave sent back Jake Bonser for four to leave Lydney reeling on 56-4.

Charlie Bendall and Ed Jones took the score to 90 before Bendall was caught at the wicket by Cook off Talbot for 17.

Spinner Hogg clean bowled Bowdler for two, but Stuart Liddington joined Ed Jones in a partnership of 50 to raise the home side's spirits. The stand was broken when Harber bowled Jones for a gutsy 35 from 66 balls.

Sadly for Lydney, 150-6 quickly became 152 all out as Liddington was run out by Talbot for 29, O'Connell was bowled by Talbot for two and Davey Kear fell to Harber for a duck.

James Harber led the Painswick attack with 4-25 from 10 overs, but he was well backed up Dan Cave (2-40), Ian Hogg (1-45) and Neville Talbot (2-33).

Lydney, without two of their main bowlers, Peter Glynn and Paul Morris, were frustrated by Sherlock and Cook, who put on 77 for the first Painswick wicket.

Sherlock faced 65 balls for his 23 before being stumped by Jon Kear off James Legge, but Griffiths joined Cook to take the score to 128. Cook, the dominant batsman, hit 76 before being caught by Bonser off Dave Kear, but Talbot and Griffiths guided Painswick to an emphatic eight wicket victory in the 37th over.
