THE £2.1 million regeneration of Lydney Harbour is almost at an end following the resurfacing of the road into the site.

Works to turn the harbour into a recreation and tourist destination began in 2019 thanks to a grant secured from the government’s Coastal Community Fund.

The district-council led project has included the opening of a new cafe, information hub and public toilets and the installation of a heritage art trail.

The last phase is the construction of a lit pathway from the harbour to the railway station, which will be completed by the end of the year.

Cabinet member for economy, Cllr Bernie O’Neill said: “The resurfacing of Harbour Road was one of the final steps in completing the regeneration of Lydney Harbour.

‘‘One of the main aims of the project was to develop the harbour into a recreation and tourism destination, improving access was essential in achieving this.

“Resurfacing the road brings the three year project closer to completion, making it easier for everyone to come and experience the brilliant new features at the site.

‘‘I would like to thank everyone in the Forest of Dean District Council involved in delivering what has been a major regeneration project for us.”
