National Two South
Lydney 18
Worthing 23
SKIPPER Will Jones says his Lydney side cannot claim to be unlucky after losing a game they dominated throughout.
The pack – with Paul Scott in the second-row providing extra mobility around the park – were in fine fettle, but Lydney failed to make the most of their scoring opportunities.
Scott was outstanding in the second-row as Lydney's decision to play more ball carriers on the firmer pitches was vindicated.
Will Jones said: "We just could not turn pressure into points.
"We had all the territory and dominated the set-pieces but it was one of those days."
Worthing forged ahead with two penalties from Govett, plus a converted Richard Briggs try.
Lydney's Brett Turner missed a couple of penalty shots, before finally threading one through the posts on 35 minutes.
Turner kicked a second penalty four minutes after the restart, but Worthing's Alex Nielsen intercepted a stray pass to run the length of the field for a killer try.
Govett converted, then extended the lead to 23-6 with a 71st minute penalty.
From stolen line-out ball, replacement Rob Sargeant broke clear and Chris Holder was in support to score.
The final play of the game produced a try for prop Nick Stoneman, which Turner converted for a losing bonus point.
