Lydney Town 2
Letcombe 2
LYDNEY maintained their unbeaten league record, but for the third time this season failed to hold on to a two goal lead.
Town were without Jonny Kear, Dan Gittings and Niall Halford so new signing from Hartpury Kristian Plumb started on the bench.
Lydney attacked from the start and created three gilt edged chances inside five minutes.
Matt Timmins side-footed wide from six yards, then screwed a header past the post from even closer.
Danny Clarke blazed a volley over the bar, while Adam Price brought a fine save out of Vaux in the Letcombe goal.
Gareth Heywood was next to try his luck but his great run and shot failed to trouble the visiting keeper.
The barricades were finally breached on 25 minutes when a Ricky Elliott corner was headed home. Timmins claimed the last touch after tussling with a defender.
Lydney went 2-0 up on 36 minutes when James Morse broke up a Letcombe attack and ran half the length of the pitch before playing in Adam Price. The in-form striker coolly slid the ball past Vaux for his sixth league goal of the season.
Plumb replaced Timmins (groin injury) at the break.
Lydney continued to press and Danny Clarke should have put the result beyond in doubt, but his effort was kept out by the Letcombe keeper's feet.
The visitors grew in confidence and pegged a goal back when Horsewell cut inside and bent his shot into the far corner.
Five minutes later, Roberts raced down the left flank and played in Horsewell again. The confident striker controlled and blasted a superb shot into the top corner, giving Jones no chance at all. Lydney were rattled, but still created chances. Vaux pulled off a couple of excellent saves to keep his team in it. Youngster Luke Brown came on for Price on 70 minutes but it was the visitors who went closest to finding a winner.
Roberts hammered a shot over the bar from 12 yards in the 85th minute, before seeing another effort blocked by Jones from the last attack of the game.
