Division One West

Lydney Town 1

Tytherington Rocks 1

YOUNG striker Nial Halford had to withdraw from Lydney's line-up after injuring himself in the warm-up. Hartpury College student Dan Gittings (pictured) got a late call-up.

Rocks were the first club to beat Lydney in the league this season, back in January.

This rematch proved just as tough for Neil Hook's team.

Lydney started well enough and forced the visitors to clear the ball off their own line twice during the opening exchanges.

In the fifth minute Rocks midfielder Mark Totterdell caught his studs in the turf and had to be rushed to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. He suffered a broken leg.

The visitors stuck to their task and Lydney struggled to break them down. However, just before the break a Danny Clarke shot was parried by the Rocks keeper. The rebound fell to Matt Timmins, but his effort was cleared off the line. From the resulting corner Sam Elliott headed wide of the post.

On 70 minutes, Dan Gittings had a point blank header brilliantly saved by Rocks keeper Tom Sheppard.

The game became stretched and two minutes later it was the turn of Lydney keeper Mike Reddan to make a good save.

Glen Stallard blocked a Rocks effort on the line before Lydney finally broke the deadlock 12 minutes from time. Danny Clarke picked up the ball on the edge of the box and hit a tremendous shot into the bottom corner of the net. Five minutes later Lydney nearly doubled their lead when Timmins broke through and crossed into the box. Danny Clarke struck another terrific shot, but man of the match Sheppard pulled off a second fantastic save.

With time running out Tytherington pushed men forward. In the 90th minute striker Mark Hughes got to a long ball just ahead of keeper Reddan and forced his header over the line.
