A LAST-DITCH bid to save Cinderford' s Miners' Welfare Hall from closure is being made at a public meeting on Tuesday.

Former mayor Lloyd Wilce is urging everyone interested in keeping the hall open to come along at 7pm.

"Now is the crunch time to show support for the hall, otherwise it will undoubtedly close," warned Mr Wilce, who became a councillor 63 years ago when he became town council representative on the hall committee. He has since been its chairman and a director.

The public meeting is being chaired by Andrew Morse, from the Coalfields Industry Social and Welfare Organisation, which has been demanding a crippling £70,000 payment owed by the hall's social club.
