Surridge County League

Ellwood 1

King's Stanley 3

KING'S Stanley scored three times in the final 10 minutes to move into second spot in the County League.

Both goalkeepers were in excellent form during a scoreless but exciting first-half.

Ellwood's Kerry Hale saw his 30-yard shot pushed around the post by Stanley keeper Pete Davis, while Martin Lawrence reacted quickly to keep out a Simon Harmers shot.

Lawrence also thwarted Brown, Barstow and Clutterbuck with top notch saves.

Ellwood had a great opportunity to take the lead in the 28th minute when Julian Addis raced clean through on goal, but his low shot was turned around the post by Davis.

The home side took the lead in the 51st minute when Mike Nelson broke down the right and pulled the ball back for Gary Wildin to smash home.

Wildin almost doubled the lead when his cross deceived King's keeper Davis, who scrambled it clear.

Davis made another smart save to deny Derek Roberts.

Simon Harmers equalised for King's in the 81st minute following a rare misjudgement by Lawrence. The visitors seized the initiative with a right-footed curling effort from Sam Prior. Four minutes from time, Ben Newman scored from close range to cruelly kill off Ellwood's brave resistance.
