MAYOR Brian Pearman has quit Lydney Town Council completely in disgust at the way it is operating saying: “I can’t bear to watch it fall apart.”

Mr Pearman, a councillor on the authority for six years, claimed there are a number of issues, including chat on social media that have brought the council to its knees.

And he said he could not stand it any longer.

He confirmed his resignation with a broadside to certain council members who, he says, have caused serious aggrovation.

Mr Pearman, who took over as mayor from former councillor Bob Berryman after May’s elections, said: “I have had more than enough of the nonsense that has been going on by members for the past eight months.

“It is beyond a joke. You have a CEO (Mrs Jayne Smailes) off sick with a stress-related illness and there are members undermining everything we are trying to do.

“I have got to the end of my tether on it.”
