It is 10 years since Shaun James was killed by a hit- and-run driver and daughter Layla says there isn't a day that goes by when she doesn't think of him.

The 15-year-old and her mum Lisa McStraw, Shaun's former partner, made their annual pilgrimage to Shaun's grave on Saturday to lay flowers and think about the loving family man who was cruelly taken from them just before Christmas in 2002.

The 32-year-old builder and father-of-three from Cinderford was found dying in Sawmills Lane in Steam Mills at 7pm on December 15 that year.

He had been hit by a vehicle and dragged along underneath it. But despite extensive police investigations at the time, no one was ever brought to justice over his death.

"It doesn't get easier as time goes on, but I think you get stronger and learn to cope with it better," said Lisa.

"But we've never given up hope that the person who murdered Shaun will give themselves up. It's not fair that they will be out buying Christmas presents for their family now while I'm working 12-hour shifts to give Layla half of what she should have."

Layla said she missed her dad, especially when he would have been by her side like during a major operation on her back recently.

She said: "It was hard for me after it happened as the other kids at school were saying things and making up stories. Not knowing what happened to dad changes the way I look at people. I'm suspicious because the person who did it could still live in this area. I don't know what I'd say to the person who did it except it's not too late to give yourself up."

Shaun's ex-wife Stephanie Oversby, son Jesse and daughter Laura said they would never have closure until justice is done.

Det Insp Steve Porter, who has worked on the case since Shaun died, said: "Our thoughts are with the family on this sad anniversary.

"While our inquiries into Shaun's death have not managed to provide all the answers about what happened, we will investigate any fresh information that comes to light."
