A SPOKESMAN for Stowfield Quarry in Newland says he fears he will find 'a dead body floating in the lake', following reports of children breaking into the grounds to swim.

Since the start of the recent good weather, police have been called to Stowfield Quarry on five occasions, prompting the Force to issue a public safety warning.

The reports come just weeks after a teenage boy's body was pulled from water at Gullet Quarry near Malvern.

Local PC Duncan Arinze says parents and children need to be aware of the dangers and avoid the quarry lake.

He said: "We've had youngsters cutting fences to gain access, swimming and doing 'tombstones' into the water.

"Putting to one side the fact that cutting a fence is criminal damage, it's so dangerous to swim and dive in the lake, particularly as the depth of the water is very deceptive."
