SUPER-green Helen Baker is waging a one woman war against the rising tide of plastic packaging with her new Eco Pantry in Newnham-on-Severn.

Helen has set up shop in the rear of Bailey’s Stores in the High Street with a zero plastic ethos selling organic food and other goods without the need for plastic packaging.

She encourages customers to bring their own containers whether it’s for rice, pasta or brown sugar or bottles for olive or sunflower oil or apple cider.

She also sells wooden brushes, toothbrushes and other items normally made from plastic.

“All it takes is just a bit of planning to organise,” she said. “In feel that of everyone just looked after their little bit of the world it would be a better place.

“It is also a matter of raising awareness and applying it to your life.

“It is not just a matter of having biodegradable straws in pubs. It’s asking yourself do you really need a straw and if you do, to carry your own metal or bamboo straw.

“And when you go to the butcher, take your own tub. That way the butcher saves money too.”
