Western Counties North

North Bristol 20

Berry Hill 26

BERRY Hill extended their winning league run to nine games against a decent North Bristol team.

On a heavy pitch, Hill started well enough with Lee Osborne kicking a fifth minute penalty.

However, weak handling and poor discipline allowed the home side to take advantage and score a converted try and a penalty.

Scrum-half Dave Arnott began to exert some energy into his forwards with a couple of quick taps.

Slowly, Hill began to put pressure on North Bristol.

Dan Field and Matt Powell were both unlucky not to score tries – the referee claiming that both had been held up.

Osborne cut the half-time deficit to 10-9 with two more penalties.

Hill played some excellent rugby in the second period.

One flowing move involving backs and forwards resulted in a try for player/coach Brett Scrivens near the posts. Osborne converted.

Kurt Brown touched down shortly after as the visitors turned down a difficult penalty opportunity to kick to the corner. Brown rode the driving maul to dive over.

The home side hit back with a converted try from a five-metre scrum after Tony Bean had been sin-binned.

Hill responded with arguably the try of their season. Backs and forwards combined through numerous phases to leave the North Bristol defence in pieces.

The ball was moved quickly through Matt Powell and Tom Legge to put Brown over in the corner for a superb unconverted score. North Bristol kicked a late penalty, but Hill spent the last few minutes attacking in the home 22.

This Saturday, the league leaders are at home to Old Centralians (2.30pm).
