Western Counties North
Berry Hill 43
Old Centralians 10
TWENTY-FIVE years ago, in their first ever season of league rugby, Berry Hill won 10 games out of 10 to clinch the title.
Times have changed – and the current squad must play 26 matches in the competitive Western Counties North Division before they can lay claim to any trophies.
However, they're definitely going the right way, seeing off a decent Old Cents team to make it 10 wins from 11.
Lee Osborne kicked an early penalty, but an uncharacteristic error from skipper Andy Wright gifted Old Cents a converted try.
Hill's response was immediate. Tony Bean forced his way over from close range, then Kurt Brown cut a superb angle from a flat Dave Arnott pass to go under the posts.
Wright made up for his earlier error with another close range try.
Full-back Josh Cook beat the Old Cents defence to touch down following a neat chip over the top from Arnott.
Sean McRoberts took a pass from Brett Scriven to finish off a well-worked line-out move.
Osborne converted four of the five tries and the game was effectively over at half-time with Hill leading 36-10.
Old Cents put the Foresters under pressure at the start of the second-half, but Hill's defence held firm.
Try number six followed when McRoberts fed Kurt Brown (pictured below) from a five-metre scrum for his second try of the match. Osborne converted from wide out.
With the game won, Hill took the opportunity to give all their replacements a run out.
The game became a little disjointed with neither side able to create further scoring opportunities.
This Saturday Hill travel to Yatton. On Tuesday November 30 they play Thornbury in the regional final of the Gloucestershire Cup at North Bristol.
BERRY Hill Ladies are holding a reunion for all former players, coaches and supporters on November 27. For more details call Butch on 07545 840098.
