WORKMEN constructing a new classroom block at English Bicknor Primary School unearthed the remains of a stone castle – which experts believe formed the moat of a motte-and-bailey style castle.

It had been assumed that the existing castle ruins – a raised earthwork in the village – was constructed during the 11th Century.
