AS PART of the 90th birthday celebrations for a very special WI member, institutes up and down the county, including St Briavels have been ’yarn bombing’ their local community.

It appears that ‘the Queen’ took time out of her busy schedule to rest awhile on The Tump at St Briavels and sample a specially made cake.

One of the local residents, John Tamplin and his dog, Charlie, took the opportunity to pass the time of day with her.

Other areas in St Briavels had been ’yarn ’bombed’ with pom poms, knitted and crocheted bunting and other decorations.

Valerie Hooper of St Briavels WI, said: “Yarn bombing is a great way to use up odd bits of wool and to attract attention to the fact that the Women’s Institute is thriving in many villages throughout the county.

“Contrary to the popular belief that members are old fuddy duddies who sit and drink tea, meetings are relaxed, mainly fun, sometimes serious and always informative.

“We will always welcome new members on the third Wednesday in the month to the Pavilion at 7.30pm.”
