Worthing 80

Lydney 31

LYDNEY'S players were told to take a long, hard look at the scoreboard after this embarrassing 12-try defeat at unbeaten Worthing.

The only consolation for Lydney was that they managed to score five tries themselves – mostly through the forwards – to escape with a bonus point.

Josh Hannam, Dave Bennett and Paul Scott grabbed first half tries for Lydney as they went into the break only 28-19 down.

Skipper James McMahon scored both of Lydney's second half touchdowns, with Mike Hagan kicking three conversions, but Lydney were simply blown away by a rampant home side who scored five of their tries in the last 10 minutes.

Raiders full-back Matt McLean scored two tries and kicked 10 conversions for a personal haul of 30 points, while Alexander Nielsen touched down three times.

Lydney went into this match without Craig Jones and Tai Lakabuka, as well as long-term injury Brett Turner. Tony Wicks returned at 10 to boost an inexperienced backs division.

Lydney face an in-form Launceston team at home this week.
