DISTRICT Council leader Tim Gwilliam has launched a damning attack on Government organisation Homes England as the long-running Five Acres project fell apart on Monday.

The Forest of Dean District authority boss has labelled Homes England’s handling of the project as ‘incompetence’ and claimed there have been ‘false promises’ made in the months and years that the scheme has been on the drawing board.

And he has vowed that a campaign is now likely to be set in motion to ensure the Five Acres site stays in council control.

But Homes England, in response, have said they are taking their time so that they are ‘careful with public money and undertake thorough due diligence’ when big sums of public money are involved.
