THERE was a bumper crop of entries into this year’s Bream Gardening Show despite tough growing conditions.
The lack of rain and intense heat this summer has made growing to show standard extremely difficult but there was a huge array of flowers, fruit and vegetables.
Alongside the produce was a wide range of handicrafts on display from flower arranging to photography and knitting at the 157th show which was held at Bream Sports and Social Club on Saturday (August 20).
There was also a “battle of the villages” with growers from Bream going up against rivals from Yorkley.
Pat Dunford was presented with the Miss Newell Cup on behalf of winners Yorkley.
Another first for the show was the Bream Bake-off.
Winner Suzanne Snowden was presented with a trophy.
The big winner in the produce classes was Trudi Breadman who won the Royal Horticultural Society Banksian Medal – described as the cream of the trophies and the cup for best in show.
She said her wins were “completely unexpected”.
Mrs Breadman moved to Bream at the end of 2019 and said local people were very helpful.
