WITH heavy rain forecast across Gloucestershire this week, drivers in the Forest of Dean are being urged to take extra care on the roads.

Mike Thompson, Chief Operating Officer at Leasing Options, said: “Driving in heavy rain and floods increases the risk of accidents and breakdowns. Even in areas used to wet weather, such as the Forest of Dean, motorists should remain vigilant and adjust their driving to suit the conditions.”

He advised drivers to check their vehicles before setting off, including windscreen wipers, tyre tread and pressure, and to stay updated with local weather warnings. “Reduce your speed, leave plenty of space between vehicles, and keep your windows clean. Dipped headlights and air conditioning can also improve visibility,” Thompson added.

Local drivers are reminded to avoid flooded areas where possible, particularly on low-lying roads and river crossings in and around the Forest of Dean, which can become hazardous after heavy rainfall. Sections of the A4136 and smaller rural lanes are especially prone to surface water.

Leasing Options, one of the UK’s leading car and van leasing specialists, issued the advice to help motorists stay safe while travelling in wet and potentially hazardous conditions. More information is available on their website here.
