Tynedale 24

Cinderford 0

CINDERFORD'S journey north proved a fruitless one as they lost a game played in atrocious conditions.

Cinderford kicked off with the howling wind behind them, but could not make the most of their advantage. In reality, the visitors were no match for Tynedale, up front or behind the scrum.

Such was the strength of the wind a couple of dropouts from the 22 went dead behind the opposition's posts.

It took Tynedale until the 30th minute to break the deadlock with a try from outside-half Joel Hodgson. His conversion attempt from just to the side of the posts came up short.

Just as the players took to the field for the second half the heavens opened.

Cinderford found themselves playing into driving rain as well as a ferocious gale and could not get out their own 22. They conceded numerous penalties which the home team failed to turn into points. Eventually, Tynedale opted to take scrums instead of kicking for the posts.

Cinderford's dogged defence meant they hung in the game until the 70th minute, but when centre Chris Harris crashed under the posts for a try the contest was all but settled.

Alistair Murray scored Tynedale's third try in the 78th minute and deep into stoppage time Tom Bramwell touched down for the bonus point. Hodgson kicked two conversions from four.

This was a game Cinderford won't want to dwell on and they will certainly need to improve for their home clash with Macclesfield this Saturday (2.30pm).
