A PARTIAL agreement has been reached over the provision of Meals on Wheels for the elderly and housebound in the Forest.

Last week, The Forester revealed that the Forest's Meals on Wheels came via an organisation in Merthyr Tydfil.

Now, Gloucestershire County Council says it is happy to 'promote Age Concern's services to people in the Forest who want to choose them'.

Councillor Andrew Gravells said: "The Meals on Wheels service in the Forest of Dean provided by the national charity the Royal Voluntary Service has been the focus of several articles in The Forester recently.

"I want to set the record straight about how the current service works and the benefits it brings to around 1,300 elderly people it supports across the county.

"Since 2009, Royal Voluntary Service has been delivering freshly cooked meals 365 days of the year within Gloucestershire.

"The meals are delivered frozen from the suppliers twice a week to the Cheltenham or Stonehouse kitchens, where they are cooked and delivered on the same day."
