THIS cup final success was particularly sweet for St Briavels goalkeeper and captain Chris Forster.
Forster played for Lydney Town last season in the Hellenic League and was the club's young player of the year.
However, when Richard Thomas returned to Lydney in the summer, Forster found himself sidelined at The Recreation Ground.
He said: "People tell you to play the highest standard that you can, but I can't see myself leaving St Briavels again.
"There's such a good team spirit here, we're top of Division Two in the League and pushing to go up."
St Briavels, who recently celebrated their centenary, fell behind to a Luke Hutton tap-in.
Andy Batcock levelled things up with a header, then Ashley Edwards gave them the lead.
Lydney levelled, before taking the lead again through a Hutton penalty following a Jamie Weston foul.
Forster's long goal-kick led to the third Saints goal.
Peter Meredith out-jumped the Lydney keeper to score in the first period of extra-time.
A superb Sam Mitton curler finally settled an outstanding final in St Briavels' favour.
Forster added: "It was a really good game and I got a bit of stick off the Lydney fans.
"Some people say I made a mistake leaving them, while others say they made the mistake."
