Blackheath 48

FEW teams will go to Blackheath this season and score 35 points, but forwards coach Lee Fortey says Cinderford could easily have returned with more than just a four-try bonus point.

"It's one that got away in my eyes," said the former Gloucester and Worcester prop.

"We controlled the first-half to lead 20-13 but we let them score first after the break and they raised the tempo.

"It's quite easily a game we could have won.

"That's the most frustrating thing about losing.

"We scored four good tries and could probably have stopped some of theirs.

"Individuals will always miss tackles, but it's happening too often.

"They (Blackheath) were also awarded two penalty-tries.

"I spoke to the ref about them and he said our scrum popped up when they were close to our line.

"To me, though, they weren't going forward."

Kyle Palm and Dave McKee scored first-half tries as Cinderford took a seven point lead into the interval.

Mark Woodrow converted both touchdowns and slotted two penalties.

Blackheath levelled the scores with a converted effort from Luke Baldwin. Two penalty-tries then put them in the ascendancy.

Cinderford responded with further touchdowns from Luke Allen and Sam Wilkes, with Woodrow kicking one conversion.

Ralph Smith crossed for the home side's fifth try with Windsor maintaining his 100 per cent kicking record with the conversion.

Cinderford gave themselves renewed hope when replacement Mark Davies added a penalty to make it 41-35, but Blackheath finished the game off in fine style with winger Tyson Lewis sprinting clear to score just before the end. Windsor converted.

Cinderford take on London Scottish at home this Saturday and Fortey insists the visitors are beatable.

He said: "Anybody can beat anybody in this league.

"Our set pieces will have to be in order because London Scottish are not bad in the scrum, but it's a game we can win.

"They (London Scottish) have spent a lot of money, but it's all about what people do in the 80 minutes."
