Forest-backed mountaineers survive earthquake tragedy on Everest

A team of mountaineers, backed by The Drybrook based MF Freeman group, has abandoned a Mount Everest record attempt in the wake of the Nepalese earthquake tragedy.

The eight strong team was due to stage the 'World's Highest Black Tie Dinner' on the 23,000ft North Col of Everest on Monday this week to secure an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records and raise money for charity.

But the attempt was called off after the Earthquake killed more than 4,300 people and destroyed Everest Base Camp on Saturday.

Instead, the team, led by Neil Laughton, a former Royal Commando and SAS Officer, has returned to Base Camp to join the search and rescue attempt for other climbers stranded on the mountain or trapped by avalanches.
