SILVIA Indrakova has become Lydney Boxing Club's first ever female national champion.
The 26-year-old housekeeper, who works for Lord Bledisloe, beat reigning champ Rebecca Bravender (Barton ABC Yorkshire) at Mansfield Civic Centre to win the Class C under-51kg crown for fighters who have had less than five bouts.
The unbeaten Bravender was the hot favourite but Silvia, originally from Czechoslovakia, followed her corner's instructions and refused to get drawn into a brawl.
She kept her shots long and straight and scored well with her back hand in the first round to lead 8-5 (computer scoring).
There wasn't much between the girls in round two, but Silva held a 13-10 advantage.
She finished the job off to win 20-18.
Coach Bryan Higgs said: "It was a great win for both Silvia and the club and it's a great way to finish the season off."
Silvia had her first ever fight while at Worcester University.
She joined Lydney Boxing Club when she moved into the area and coach Higgs says she has improved enormously.
"I'm chuffed to beans because we've spent a lot of time working with her. We've been taking her to Birmingham for sparring because it's hard to find good people to put her in the ring with.
"She's very strong and hits hard. Having only had four fights she will get even better."
