TOP policewoman Suzette Davenport spoke to traders and shoppers in Coleford yesterday during her first visit to the Dean.

The first female Chief Constable in the county's history met Superintendent Phil Haynes and pledged her support for plans to create a new policing hub in the town.

Suzette has more than 20 years' service – with the bulk of that time spent with West Mercia Police.

"I have worked in very different areas but the same approach applies to understand what the people in each community want and need from the police," said Suzette, who is a former National League football player.

"In terms of the hub we have to decide what policing services need to be delivered from here and to make sure it is cost effective and good value for money.

"Bringing cells back here would be too cost prohibitive."
