MEMBERS of environment protest group Extinction Rebellion had a second action day in the Forest of Dean last Saturday, just weeks after their first outing in Coleford.
This time, the group set-up a stall outside Tesco in Lydney where they wanted to highlight the overuse of plastic packaging and single-use plastic bags as shoppers went in and out of the supermarket.
However, despite some favourable comments from shoppers, it was not all harmony.
Unlike the management at the Co-op in Coleford last month, the management at Tesco in Lydney did not allow members into the store with posters and banners inside trolleys.
Nevertheless, the store manager did accept a trolley of discarded packaging.
The group bought goods, removed the packaging and placed it in a separate shopping trolley. And, at the same time and in order to highlight alternatives to plastic use, they offered other sustainable options to shoppers from the pop-up stall in the form of paper bags, reusable canvas and cotton bags, cardboard boxes and glass jars.
