GLOUCESTER Rugby is to trial a new ‘green’ supporters’ coach service for its upcoming fixture against Newcastle Red Bulls at Kingsholm on Saturday, June 6, in a bid to improve sustainability and strengthen links with clubs in the Forest of Dean.

The initiative, run in partnership with Bennetts Coaches and Veolia UK, will provide free transport for supporters travelling from Berry Hill, Drybrook and Cinderford rugby clubs, reducing the need for individual car journeys and helping cut carbon emissions associated with matchday travel.

Outbound coaches will depart Berry Hill Rugby Club at 1pm, picking up passengers at Drybrook at 1.20pm and Cinderford at 1.30pm before arriving at Kingsholm at 2pm ahead of the 3.15pm kick-off.

Return services will leave Kingsholm at 6pm, dropping supporters back at Cinderford, Drybrook and Berry Hill throughout the evening.

Places on the free service must be pre-booked, with supporters required to hold a valid match ticket for entry. Gloucester Rugby says the scheme is part of a wider commitment to reducing its environmental impact and improving accessibility for fans in more rural areas.

By reducing the number of individual vehicles travelling to Kingsholm, the club hopes to ease congestion around the stadium and enhance the overall matchday experience. Supporters will be able to claim a maximum of six tickets per person, encouraging families and groups to travel together on the coaches provided.

The trial will take place for Gloucester Rugby’s Premiership fixture against Newcastle Red Bulls at Kingsholm Stadium on Saturday, June 6, with the club hoping it could lead to further green transport initiatives in future seasons if successful.

It forms part of a wider drive across the club and its partners to promote sustainable travel options and reduce the environmental footprint of matchdays for supporters across Gloucestershire and surrounding areas in the region.
