Residents across the Forest of Dean are being reminded of what can be recycled from the kerbside as part of Global Recycling Day on Wednesday, March 18.
Forest of Dean District Council has highlighted a range of everyday household items that can be placed out for collection, encouraging people to make full use of the district’s recycling services.
Among the items accepted are plastics, including bottles, yoghurt pots, fruit punnets and meat trays. Lids, spray triggers and pumps can also be recycled, either left on or removed.
Textiles such as clothing can also be collected, provided they are placed in a carrier bag and put in the green box normally used for glass.
The council is also reminding households that small electrical and electronic devices can be recycled from home. Items such as kettles, electric toothbrushes, hairdryers, blenders and cables should be placed in a carrier bag and left on top of the waste bin on collection day.
Metal items including tins, cans and biscuit or sweet tins are also accepted as part of the regular recycling service.
The reminder forms part of efforts to boost recycling rates locally and ensure residents are aware of the full range of materials that can be collected from the kerbside.
Households are also being encouraged to check which items belong in each bin, with general waste going into black wheelie bins, recycling split between green boxes and blue bags, and food waste placed in kitchen or outdoor caddies. Garden waste is collected separately for those with a licence.
Residents unsure about how to dispose of specific items can use Gloucestershire’s online Waste Wizard tool for guidance.
