CINDERFORD Band came third in a competition in Oxfordshire – but just two points separated them from the winners.

The band was competing in the Oxford and District Brass Band Association contest held at Cokethorpe School in Witney.

Adjuicator Philip Norley said the band could do well at the area competition next month.

A spokesman for the band said: “Adjudicator, Philip Norley awarded Cinderford Band, third place with 186 points, second were Chinnor Silver Band with 187 points and in first place were Ocean Brass (from Southampton) with 188 points who also won the best soloist award, so pretty close between first and third places.

“A good day out was had by all.”

Mr Norley said: “A few slips and loose entries in places probably cost them and that by focusing on these issues before the Areas contest next month, could produce an excellent result.”
