COMEDY legend Su Pollard will wave a big ‘Hi De Hi!’ to locals when she visits the Wye Valley for the first time this month for a fun-filled evening of music, storytelling and stand up.

The TV and stage star is bringing her comedy and cabaret show ‘Oh… and another thing!’ to The Savoy Theatre in Monmouth for one night only on Friday, June 24.

Su will entertain the audience with stories from her illustrious TV and stage career, from her days as Peggy Ollerenshaw in ‘Hi De Hi!’ right the way through to her run to the semi-final of last year’s ‘Celebrity Masterchef’.

And ‘Hi De Hi!’ fans are in for a special treat, as Su revealed Peggy herself will likely make an appearance.

In an interview with The Forester, Su said of the show’s name: “It’s called that because when I tell a story that’s what I say - ‘Oh… and another thing’.

“The show is a bit of everything really, stories, songs, cabaret, before a Q&A with the audience in ‘Act 2’.

“We wanted to make it an entertaining show that’s interesting to a lot of people - It’s a real potpourri of everything.”

The actor says she hopes her show will serve as a “tonic” to people who are yet to return to normal in terms of their social lives and recreation after the pandemic.

“It gives people an opportunity to enjoy themselves after everything in the last few years, as I think people are a still a bit nervous about coming out.

“I think it’s important to give people a tonic.

“One man was very thankful to come to the show as it was the first time he’d been out in nearly two years.”

She added the show also offers good value for money, which she feels is important to people amid the rising cost of living.

“We wanted to do a show that’s affordable for people,” she said.

“Some tickets for cabaret on the West End are going for about £400, which is absolutely ludicrous really when you factor in travel, food etc.

“So our show is also about giving people value for money, without having to plan too far ahead.”

As well as stories from her career, the show will include a host of songs including Su’s 1986 single ‘Starting Together’, which reached No.2 in the UK charts, as well as old music hall favourites and numbers from musicals in which she has starred, including ‘Little Shop of Horrors’.

Her June shows will also tie in with the Platinum Jubilee, with a reading of a poem about Her Majesty the Queen.

Then, the second part of the evening will see Su answer questions from the audience, which will be written down and handed in during the interval.

Su says the Q&A gives people the chance to ask her “whatever they like” - often throwing up some “entertaining” results.

On appearing at the Savoy, Su said: “I’ve not been to Monmouth before, I’ve played in Cardiff and Swansea in the past and the Welsh people have always been very welcoming.”

Su says her friend and former ‘Hi-De-Hi!’ co-star Ruth Madoc, who played chief Yellowcoat Gladys Pugh, will be making the journey from Swansea to attend the show at the Savoy.

“Ruth is going to teach me how to say ‘good evening everybody’ in Welsh - I can’t say I know much about the Welsh language, but I think people appreciate it if you’ve had a go.”
