GFA Challenge Trophy

Winterbourne 3

Ellwood 4

(after extra-time)

GUEST players Jamie and Matt Addis scored three of Ellwood's four goals to put them in the last eight of the Challenge Trophy.

The Foresters will play either Shortwood United or Cadbury Heath in the next round.

Beating Hellenic One West outfit Winterbourne, who are managed by former Liverpool midfielder Nicky Tanner, is no mean achievement.

Saturday's cup tie was certainly full of drama, with Ellwood striker Mike Nelson injuring himself in the pre-match warm-up and having to drop out.

Ellwood had numerous chances to score in the first period but wasted them all to trail 1-0.

Jamie Addis, only available because his regular side Westfields did not have a game, then struck twice with similar goals, close range finishes at the back post.

Ellwood could have made the game safe when they were awarded a penalty for a foul, but Ryan Pendrey's spot-kick was saved.

With two minutes to go, Alex Brown bundled over an opponent in the box and Winterbourne levelled from the spot.

Winterbourne regained the lead in extra-time.

Ellwood's Gary Wildin and two Winterbourne players were then sent off for fighting.

Matt Addis – brother to Jamie and Ellwood boss Chris – came off the bench to grab Ellwood's equaliser.

Matt is a Viney St Swithins player but also made himself available to Ellwood because Viney did not have a game.

The outstanding Kerry Hale – who along with Derek Roberts was Ellwood's best player – popped up to score his side's winner.

Ellwood player/manager Chris Addis, who is still serving a suspension, said: "I'd love to have Jamie and Matt every week. It was a great game to watch for the neutral, though not for me.

"It shows what we are capable of, but it won't mean anything unless we take that form into the league."

Ellwood: Martin Lawrence, Olly Tait, Chris Stock, Ryan Pendrey, Jamie Addis, Alex Brown, Kerry Hale, Derek Roberts, Julian Addis, Mark Weyman, Gary Wildin. Subs: James Shingles, Justin Hayward, Matt Addis.
