Surridge County League

Axa 1

Ellwood 0

DESPITE another decent performance, Ellwood returned with nothing to show for their efforts in Bristol on Bank Holiday Monday.

Following an even first-half, Ellwood conceded the only goal of the game just past the hour mark.

Four minutes from time, Julian Addis played in striker Gary Wildin, who was brought down by the Axa keeper.

The Axa goalie, fortunate not to be sent off, got up to save Mike Nelson's penalty kick.

Ellwood player/manager Chris Addis missed the game to start a three match suspension, following his red card against Tuffley Rovers.

Addis said: "We tired a bit in the last 20 minutes but I thought we worked really hard and played quite well.

"Our problem is that we are not scoring enough. Had we converted the penalty at the end, we'd have been happy with a 1-1 draw away from home."

Ellwood's back line of keeper Mark Lawrence and defenders Ryan Pendrey, Chris Stock and Ollie Tait coped well with the Axa forwards.

However, the Foresters have scored only 15 goals in 15 league games – the lowest tally in the County League.

Off the field, Ellwood have also lost the services of coach Chris Parsons.

The former Cinderford Town director of football has been forced to step down because of illness.

Ellwood: Martin Lawrence, Ryan Pendrey, Chris Stock, Ollie Tait, Mark Weyman, Alex Brown, Kerry Hale, Derek Roberts, Julian Addis, Gary Wildin, Mike Nelson. Subs: Justin Hayward, Lee Childs, Dave Childs, James Shingles, Matt Stephens.
