NICK Elliott & Dave Price (Escort RS) took top historic class honours in their Mark II Escort with an impressive display.

Not only did they win their category, but they were the first two-wheel drive car home, finishing just outside the top 20.

Runners-up Phil Collins & Bryan Thomas (Opel Ascona) were 1min 36 secs behind the victors, with Forest favourite Cliff Simmons co-driving Simon Tysoe (Ford Escort) to third position.

1997 Wyedean winner Warren Philiskirk returned to the Dean for the first time in 14 years to take fourth spot in the historic class.

Terry Brown & Tomo Whittle (Ford Escort) were next best, 22 seconds clear of sixth placed Stuart Clarke & Kevin Haven (Ford Escort). Stuart & Kevin, however, won class H3B.

Roger Matthews & Mike Jode (MK I Escort) made the top 10, ahead of fellow home competitors Graham Waite & Gill Cotton (Opel Ascona, 19th), Ian Archer & Tom Aubrey (Ford Escort, 20th), Nick Painter & Will Rogers (MK II Escort, 21st) and John Tatlow & Julie Westwood (Saab, 22nd).

Ash Slights & Tom Hughes (Toyota Yaris) were Rally First champs, finishing 2mins 12secs in front of Chris Hellings & Nick Farmer (MGZR).
