WESTBURY-ON-SEVERN car salesman Darren Wilkins who took a Chevrolet from a garage forecourt and went on a drunken joyride on the wrong side of the Gloucester-Cheltenham road has been jailed.

Darren Wilkins, of Colchester Close, crashed into two cars coming from the opposite direction on November 18 last year and when he was breathalysed by the police he was found to be two-and-a-half times over the drink-drive limit.

One witness told police that she thought the defendant was a foreigner because he persistently drove on the right-hand side of the road.

The 35-year-old was jailed for 11 months when he appeared at Gloucester Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated vehicle taking and driving with excess alcohol.
