Renowned pitch expert Ian Pritchard, who maintains dozens of sports grounds in the Forest of Dean, has landed the contract of a lifetime.

His company Mowtech, which he founded 25 years ago, has won the contract to refurbish and maintain the pitch for Hereford United next season.

The opportunity arose when Hereford United played a pre-season friendly game at Lydbrook FC and the chairman Tim Russon said the pitch at Lydbrook was better than theirs.

"I grew up in the Forest of Dean and have been a Hereford United supporter since I was five," said Ian.

"I am very proud to be a part of the club especially as I have been a supporter for so long. I played football in my younger years and dreamed of playing for Hereford but was never good enough."

"At least now I can hopefully help them in a small way to achieve results. I am very proud to be given this fantastic honour to do the job I love at the club I love."

During the last 25 years Ian has done work for about 30 local football and rugby pitches including Berry Hill Rugby Club, Bream Rugby Club, Cinderford Rugby Club, Newent Rugby Club, St Johns Cricket Club, Lydney Town, Cinderford Town, Coleford FC, Newnham FC and Whitecross FC.

"I also maintain pitches for local authorities and school grounds. I will continue to maintain the local clubs as well as work on Hereford United pitches," said Ian.
