THE landlord of a popular Forest pub last week saw his establishment crowned local ‘Cider Pub of the Year’.

The Dog House micro pub on St John’s Street in Coleford received the award for the Forest of Dean area from the local Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) branch last week.

The award, which was the first of the year made by Forest of Dean CAMRA, was given to The Doghouse for their commitment to keeping their range of ciders “in such excellent condition”.

Landlord Greg Daniel was presented with a framed certificate in the pub by branch chairman John Fox.

The Dog House was also included in CAMRA’s national ‘Good Beer Guide’ for 2021 and 2022, having previously won the Forest’s ‘Cider Pub of the Year’ award in 2019 and 2020 and ‘Pub of the Year’ in 2017.

The pub was opened as the second ‘Cobblers’ in the Forest by Ian Jones in 2013, before Greg took over in 2014 and it became The Dog House.

Forest of Dean CAMRA says the pub offers a “good quality and ever changing” range of ciders, cask ales, craft beers and lager, as well as “a fine gin and rum selection”.

It also hosts to a range of social events including acoustic live music, open mic nights, vinyl nights, charity quizzes and more.
