POLICE have arrested some 50 people for drink and drug driving since the start of a county-wide campaign.
The constabulary reported on Friday, December 16 that 35 people had been arrested since the campaign launched at the start of December.
Then, on Sunday, December 18, officers said a further 13 people had been held in police custody on the previous day alone.
Officers say it is “disappointing” that the message around the dangers is still not getting through to people.
A police statement said of the 13 arrests on Saturday, December 17: “Some of the drivers had been stopped after officers saw a poor manner of driving, another provided a positive breath test following a low-speed collision, and another was stopped by a member of the public after seeing their vehicle swerve all over the road.”
Inspector Rachel Lynch-Warden from the Roads Policing Unit said: “I’d like to thank the motorists who have listened to our advice and not driven while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“It is disappointing that a small number of people have disregarded our advice however I’d like to thank the officers from across the Constabulary who have worked tirelessly over recent weeks to make the operation possible.
