FOREST daredevil Steve Grindle had a miracle escape when his helicopter crashed after tangling with overhead power cables and ended up on its roof.
Steve, who runs an extreme sport business in the Forest walked away from the wreckage with only minor injuries including a cut to the head sustained in the prang near Tring, Hertfordshire, last Wednesday afternoon.
He was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital as a precaution and a spokesman for the trust confirmed that Mr Grindle had not been detained overnight and discharged.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We sent a hazardous area response vehicle, an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer to the field behind Church Farm on Station Road in Aldbury. We treated one patient with minor injuries.”
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s control room said that initial reports starting coming in at around 4.45pm and that witnesses had stated that the helicopter was smoking before it crashed.
Hertfordshire Fire Service Station Commander Steve Borell said it was ‘quite remarkable that nobody was killed’.
