A NEWNHAM man has been committed for trial at Gloucester Crown Court on seven charges alleging sexual abuse of an under age girl over an eight year time period.

Alan Speakman, who is 78, and of Penby Lawn, Newnham, appeared before Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on June 9.

He denied the charges of sexually touching a girl when she was aged between four and 11.

The earliest alleged offence was between June 2007 and 2008 and the latest charges relate to dates between 2009 and 2015.

The magistrates directed jury trial on all charges and granted Mr Speakman unconditional bail pending his first appearance before the Crown Court on July 8.
