A 32-year-old Coleford man who assaulted a police officer in the town has been ordered to pay £680 in fines, compensation, costs and surcharges by Cheltenham magistrates.

Liam Annetts of Holcot Road, Coalway, pleaded guilty on April 6 to assaulting PC Kathryn Hammond by beating while in Coleford on January 16.

The magistrates said his behaviour was aggravated by the fact that he used violence against someone working in the emergency services.

They fined Annetts £450, ordered him to pay £100 compensation to PC Hammond, and also ordered payment of costs of £85 and a £45 victim services surcharge.

Annetts was given until May 4 to pay the £680 total due.
