A 58 year old Coleford man caught with a kitchen knife in the town centre has been given a suspended jail sentence by Cheltenham magistrates.
Jonathan Johnson, of Lords Hill, was convicted of having the knife with him on May 16 last year in Market Place.
The magistrates sentenced him to 20 weeks jail suspended for 18 months.
They said only a custodial sentence could be justified.
Johnson was also placed under supervision for 18 months and banned from entering Cinderford during that period.
He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £128 victim services charge - and the knife was confiscated.
