A 28-year-old Coleford man who has admitted a serious offence of violence and being armed with a metal pole is to be sentenced by a Crown Court judge next week.

At Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court, Nicholas Hughes of Astridge Close indicated pleas of guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Martin Brain at Coleford on March 10 and having a metal pole as an offensive weapon on the same date in Tram Way, Coleford, on the same date.

The magistrates remanded him in custody to appear at Gloucester Crown Court for sentence on  Wednesday, March 30.

They said the reason for sending the case to the higher court was his previous record and character, his lack of response to past court orders and the fear of further offending.
