NEWENT Town Council's move into a former funerary chapel could cost the taxpayer more than £150k.
Now, one leading councillor, David Blick, says it's time for a rethink on the proposed move.
He said: "I don't think I'm alone on this, I think other members have concerns about the costs."
Mr Blick says the costs of necessary building work, including new flooring, could rise to as much as £200k.
