MARK Harper has won the Forest of Dean parliamentary election with a total of 23,191 votes.

In second place was Labour's Steve Parry-Hearn obtaining 12,204 votes.

UKIP's Steve Stanbury came third with 8,792.

Lydney's James Greenwood the Green Party candidate gained 2,703 and the Liberal Democrat candidate Chris Coleman finished last with 2,630.

There was a 73,44% turnout.

Mr Harper said of his re-election: "I am very grateful to all those who voted for me to continue to serve as your local MP.

"As I have always said over the last 10 years, I will continue to serve all my constituents to the best of my ability, whoever they voted for."
