FOREST commuters are bracing themselves for a month of misery as Highways is set to begin one of its biggest resurfacing jobs of the year.

Major roadworks begin this week on the A48, the vital route connecting the Forest of Dean with Gloucester and Chepstow.

Highways crews will be stripping out 3.3km of damaged road over an 8km stretch and laying down 3,050 tons of hot rolled asphalt with pre-coated chippings.

Work begins on October 7 and the road will be closed because larger machines are needed to lay the new road.
