DRIVERS across the Forest of Dean are being warned to expect disruption on a key route between Broadwell and Cinderford as a programme of essential highways work gets underway next month.
Gloucestershire County Council has confirmed that signage and road lining improvements will be carried out along Speech House Road at Cannop West and Cannop from Tuesday, May 5 through to Wednesday, May 13.
The works will take place on weekdays only, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, with no activity scheduled at weekends.
As part of the scheme, sections of Speech House Road at Cannop West will be subject to a full road closure during working hours, with clearly signposted diversion routes in place for motorists.
On the stretch between Cannop crossroads and Broadwell, temporary traffic lights will be used instead, allowing traffic to continue flowing while the work is carried out in phases.
The improvements form part of the council’s wider commitment to maintaining safe, reliable roads for those who live, work and travel throughout the county.
Residents living along the affected route have been advised that access to their properties will be maintained for the duration of the works, although some delays are likely at busier times. Emergency services access will also be preserved at all times.
Parking restrictions will be in place on certain sections of the road to ensure the safety of both workers and road users. Vehicles left in signed areas may need to be moved, although off-road parking will not be affected.
However, the council has warned that the schedule is weather-dependent, meaning poor conditions such as heavy rain or sudden temperature changes could lead to delays or rescheduling at short notice.
